Report from TheRealNews on the controversy over the planned construction of the Keystone XL pipeline to pump tar sands oil from Alberta, Canada, to the Texas Gulf coast. Another Keystone pipeline has already had at least 12 spills so far this year, and the proposed tar sands pipeline would carry the world’s dirtiest oil over some of the most important farmland and vulnerable river systems. There are concerns a spill could contaminate the massive Ogallala aquifer, which provides fresh water for much of the Great Plains and is thought to be the largest continuous body of fresh water on the planet.
